About Arcade Schoolhouse
Built by a Latin teacher, for teachers who want to spend less time on prep and more time making an impact.
Why we're here
Our Mission
Our goal is to eliminate the tedious prep-work of teaching, so that teachers can focus on making an impact in students' lives. We aim to make software for teachers that is easy-to-use, ad-free, and a true asset in the classroom. Finally, we believe that Latin class can always be "the fun class" no matter what other subjects are taught at your school.

Our story
Who is behind Arcade Schoolhouse?
Arcade Schoolhouse is the passion project of husband and wife team, Patrick and Tiffany Mooney. As a Latin teacher, Patrick felt swamped with work creating assignments, preparing review games, and manually writing answer keys. After five years of teaching and a career change to web development, Patrick realized that a lot of the work could be handled with coding and the idea for Arcade Schoolhouse was born!

Meet the founder
Patrick
Patrick received his bachelors degree in History and Classics (with an emphasis in Latin) from the University of Mississippi. Afterwards he earned a Masters degree in History from the University of Tennessee where he studied Medieval Latin manuscripts and paleography.
Patrick taught 6th-12th grade Latin for five years at a public charter school in Arizona. In 2022, he switched to a career in web development where he worked primarily on tourism websites across the US. In the wake of tech-industry layoffs, Patrick now splits his time between teaching 7th grade Latin, running a freelance web-development business, and building Arcade Schoolhouse.
In addition to teaching...
Willow Lake Digital Solutions
In addition to teaching, Patrick also runs Willow Lake Digital Solutions, where he helps small businesses in Northern Arizona build, improve, and manage effective websites. His work includes website design, support, and practical guidance for small businesses and organizations.

Questions and answers
Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some answers to commonly asked questions about Arcade Schoolhouse. If you have a question that is not answered here, please reach out to us!
What is Arcade Schoolhouse?
Arcade Schoolhouse is a growing collection of interactive games, classroom activities, and teaching tools created especially for Latin teachers. Our goal is to make it easier to bring more variety, participation, and fun into the classroom without requiring hours of preparation!
Who is Arcade Schoolhouse for?
Arcade Schoolhouse is primarily designed for Latin teachers and their students. Whether you teach in a traditional classroom, a homeschool co-op, a tutoring session, an online program, or any another educational setting, our tools are made to make your life easier.
Why was Arcade Schoolhouse created?
Arcade Schoolhouse was created to solve a simple problem: as teachers we often want to do fun games and activities for their students, but simply do not have enough time to prep everything ourselves! We wanted to create tools that are easy to set up, enjoyable for students, and genuinely useful for teachers. Instead of spending an evening designing a review game from scratch, a teacher can open Arcade Schoolhouse and play right away.
What makes Arcade Schoolhouse different?
Arcade Schoolhouse is built specifically with Latin classes in mind! Our games and activities are not generic classroom tools with a few Latin words added afterward. They are designed around the kinds of vocabulary, grammar, forms, and review activities that Latin teachers would actually use. I test everything out extensively in my own Latin classrooms, before pushing live! We also try to keep everything practical. The goal is not to add more complicated technology to your classroom, but instead to make your existing lessons easier to teach.
What can I do with Arcade Schoolhouse?
Teachers can use Arcade Schoolhouse to create and play a variety of classroom games, review vocabulary and grammar, build activities, display interactive charts, and much more. Some tools are designed for full-class participation, while others can be used for individual practice, small groups, or lesson preparation.
Do I need to use a particular Latin textbook?
No. Arcade Schoolhouse is designed to work with a variety of Latin courses and teaching styles! Some tools include built-in support for commonly used textbooks, while others allow teachers to enter their own vocabulary, questions, categories, or content. We want teachers to be able to use the materials they already have rather than change their curriculum to fit our website.
Is Arcade Schoolhouse only for games?
Games are an important part of Arcade Schoolhouse, but we have more to offer! The website also includes practical teaching tools, activity builders, reference materials, interactive charts, and resources that can help with lesson planning and classroom instruction.
What is the teaching philosophy behind Arcade Schoolhouse?
We believe students learn best when they are actively involved. Teacher-led games, friendly competition, visual tools, repetition, and variety help students practice important skills without every lesson feeling the same.
Who creates Arcade Schoolhouse?
Arcade Schoolhouse is an independently created and operated project (a mom-and-pop software startup, if you will). That means it is being developed thoughtfully, feature by feature, rather than by a large education company somewhere miles from a classroom.
Is Arcade Schoolhouse still growing?
Absolutely. Arcade Schoolhouse is an ongoing project, and I am adding new games, tools, textbook support, and improvements over time. Our dream is to build a useful collection of resources that Latin teachers can return to throughout the school year.
Can teachers help shape Arcade Schoolhouse?
Yes, absolutely, please! Arcade Schoolhouse is better when you tell us what works, what could be improved, and what would make the website more useful in your classrooms! Drop us a line any time on social media or via email.
Where did you come up with the name "Arcade Schoolhouse"?
Picking the name was really challenging actually! We tried over a hundred different options and it took us months to settle on a name while we were working on the project. During development, we just called it "The Latin App". While listening to The Little House on the Prairie series on audiobook with the kids, we started experimenting with a bunch of variations of "Schoolhouse". Eventually we tried adding "Arcade" to it and that seemed like a good fit. "Schoolhouse" evoked learning in a small group setting and "Arcade" evoked fun, challenge, and competition. The name "Arcade Schoolhouse" was born!
