More Latin Mottos from Everyday Life – A Free Classroom Presentation
After the success of our first Latin Is Everywhere! presentation, we’re back with a second edition filled with even more real-world Latin mottos. This free, zero-prep slideshow is designed for Latin teachers who want to show students how Latin continues to shape our world on banners, crests, coins, and emblems all around the globe.
Why a “Part 2” Presentation?
Students are often amazed when they discover that Latin pops up outside of textbooks and ancient ruins. This follow-up collection expands on the first slideshow, adding mottos from:
- Universities in the U.S. and Europe
- Famous football clubs
- Major cities around the world
- Military units and space missions
- Cultural and scientific institutions
Each motto includes the original Latin text, an accurate English translation, high-quality images, and the organization that uses it.
How Teachers Can Use This Presentation
- Quick “brain break” or bell-ringer activity
- Warm-up before culture, history, or vocabulary lessons
- Challenge students to find Latin mottos in their own community
- Assign a mini-research project on the history of a motto
Why Students Love This Activity
This activity makes Latin personal and relevant. They’ll see that the same language used by Caesar and Cicero is still alive on a football jersey, a university seal, or even a space mission patch.
